Song background and Tom's comments

This song, as with many of them, is performed differently every time. In this case, it's because if I played it on a ukulele, and sang 'with my piano here at hand' suddenly there are complications. Naturally the lyrics have to change to accommodate the name of the instrument, so if ever I have to play it on a hurdy gurdy, a harpsichord or a chapman stick, alternative lyric suggestions are appreciated.
